South Auckland TeamPat – Student Liaison
Personal Statement – The Solomon Group Mission Statement states “their commitment to each individual’s development”. In my position as Student Liaison I have the privilege of introducing this kaupapa to all new applicants. Over the past nine years it has been exciting and humbling to witness the academic and personal growth of so many of the students. I am inspired by the words of one of our past students who had had a very traumatic number of years prior to joining our campus. He said “I used to always look back to my past which had not been very happy or successful. Because of what I have learned and achieved on my course, I have gained my self-esteem. Now I look to the future which is filled with hope and positive expectations. I have taken control of my life”

Denise – MIT Foundation Tutor
Quals & Experience - National Certificate in Adult Literacy Education (Educator); Higher Diploma of Teaching; Diploma in the Education of Students with Vision Impairment; Bachelor of Teaching and Learning; Formerly Assistant Principal of Homai National School for the Blind and Vision Impaired. Personal Statement - For various reasons, many adults become motivated to improve their education. Some people find that they lack the skills required to enter diploma or degree programmes, others lack confidence, some want to be able to help children and grandchildren and others want to find out what they would be good at. It is very satisfying to be able to play a role, not only in assisting these people to fulfil their educational goals, but also to see them grow personally.
Adalyne – Student Support Teacher [MIT Foundation & Pathways Forward]
Qualifications & Experience - NZQA Level 4 Business Administration. Originally from the UK I have mainly worked within Community Support Services, Training Co-ordination and Education. Personal Statement - Every student has their own unique ability and requirements when entering the doors of the Solomon Group. My role enables me to identify their needs and support and guide them through this great journey of further education. Ultimately giving them the confidence to progress into further education or employment with well earned qualifications. I love meeting new people and learning new things as well as always displaying a positive role model to the students I work with and my team. In Solomon Group I feel I am home and the strong whanau environment encourages positivity. In turn I am gaining new and exciting experiences within a beautiful land filled with culture.

Personal Statement –Working with Solomon Group enables me to express my own kaupapa. That is, there is no right or wrong culture...people are simply different. All people are valuable in their own right and should be respected. They all deserve the opportunity to reach new goals to enable them to make a positive contribution to our society. It is with great delight and passion I aim to do this and rejoice in the growth that each student makes as the students rejoice in their learning also.
Pam – Certificate in English Tutor
Quals & Experience – National Certificate in Adult Literacy Education, National Certificate in Adult Education and Training, NZQA Assessor. Personal Statement – My background has been with special needs teenagers within the mainstream curriculum. At Solomon Group I have had the opportunity to work with students at Pre-Literate level, Beginner level and now the NZQA Certificate in English course, which takes students from level 1 through to level 3. Here I am able to put my knowledge and training of the NZQA assessment environment into practice. I have found it both challenging and rewarding.
Jackie - PreLit Tutor
Quals & Exp - CELTA and National Certificate in Adult Literacy Education. Previously worked for Auckland English Academy and then for Language Overseas. Also South Auckland Home Tutor Scheme as well as teaching private students. Personal Statement - I really enjoy working for Solomon Group because of their unique approach where the Tutors are encouraged to develop an ESOL course which meets the individual student's needs. In this way I am able to cater for all the various levels within my class and let them work at their own pace. A warm, caring environment within the classroom helps the students build up their confidence. I find this particularly important at the Pre Lit level where some students have no knowledge of English. I feel lucky to be able to share in all the different cultures and find that we are constantly learning from each other.
Lil - PreLit Assistant Tutor
Quals & Experience – National Certificate in Adult Literacy Education; Social Worker 4 years; small business operator; President of Nga Wahine Aroha o Manurewa (Maori Women Welfare League Branch). What else keeps me busy is being an active member of my church, being an active member of the work force and being an active member of my community through both the church and Nga Wahine Toko I Te Ora or the Maori Womens Welfare League. I am continually learning at all levels and on a daily basis. This makes me feel of worth and also makes me feel that I am still able to contribute to society as a whole. “Let us realise that the privilege to work is a gift, that the power to work is a blessing, that the love of work is success”.
