“I walked into this class at Mansell school where I saw a lot of familiar faces and in there was my mother and other whanau members also other community friends...I was welcomed in straight away by all and to discover I had just signed up to WAM course (Whanau Ara Mua).
I didn’t know what to expect but the first and second week got me hooked and I was so curious to wanting to know more about where this course was leading me I followed on. Education literacy and numeracy were sparking in my head I was feeling great helping out in class with the exercise regime.
I had a lack of education so it was a good feeling to be doing parenting skills through Building Awesome Whanau and ANZ budgeting. I did fall down a couple of times but boredom wasn’t for me anymore. PACTT (Parent and Child Time Together) helped me and my children with their homework, made our whanau time really important and more my children knowing they are important and we as a whanau will grow and learn together.
I owe all that I am now, to my tutor she was raw, honest, patient, humble and wise. My goal to help the community has been fulfilled, I now work for Raukura Hauora O Tainui – I am now self-managed and I deliver Intensive stop smoking service. My will to be better and to be blessed with success could only start with me! For my children!"
